February infringement package: Czech Republic urged to correctly transpose minimum driving fitness standards for cardiovascular diseases – On 9.2.2022, the Commission published February’s infringement package. In the field of mobility and transport, the Commission has intervened against the Czech Republic to provide further clarification on the implementation of Directive (EU) 2016/1106, which amended Annex III of the Directive on driving licences (Directive (EU) 2006/126) setting minimum standards of physical and mental fitness for driving. The Commission is of the opinion that the Czech Republic generically describes the cardiovascular diseases that according to the EU have to be taken into account and does not adequately consider scientific developments on diseases that can affect fitness or unsuitability for driving. The Czech Republic has two months to respond, after which the Commission may decide whether to refer the case to the EU Court of Justice.
