Poland: concluded agreement with MPK Wroclaw to finance the development of sustainable tram transport – On 3.2.2022, the EIB concluded an agreement with MPK Wroclaw for PLN 165.9m, with which the EIB will finance the purchase of new rolling stock for trams. The project is part of the strategic plan for the sustainable development of public transport and its implementation will ensure an increase in the quality, safety and accessibility of tram transport. The financing is part of the European Fund for Strategic Investments, as the purchase of MPK Wroclaw’s new fleet of trams will have a positive impact on the environment.

Italy: Prysmiam Group accelerates on innovation with EIB support – On 3.2.2022, the EIB and Prysmian Group, a world leader in energy and telecommunications systems, signed a EUR 135m financing agreement to support the Group’s full research and development (“R&D”) activities in the EU. In particular, the areas of industrial research, digital transformation and sustainability, innovation and testing, and new product development are eligible for funding. EIB Vice-President Gelsomina Vigliotti said: “The agreement signed with Prysmian aims to develop cable technology innovations based on sustainability criteria in order to reduce raw material consumption, waste generation and CO2 emissions. Supporting the cabling sector contributes to strengthening economic, social and territorial cohesion and promoting the energy and digital transition in Europe’.

Mims: Presentation of the Reports of the Study Commissions – On 4.2.2022, the presentation of the Reports of the Study Commissions on the impact of climate change on infrastructures and transport systems (illustrates how the climate crisis impacts and will impact infrastructures and transport systems) and on finance for sustainable infrastructures (direct investments in infrastructures, mobility systems and urban regeneration from a sustainable perspective) will take place online. Participating in the presentation will be the Minister for Sustainable Infrastructure and Mobility, Enrico Giovannini, and Prof. Carlo Carraro and Fabio Pammolli.

MISE: new investments to support energy transition authorised – On 3.2.2022, Mise authorised the agreement for industrial innovation presented by the company Nuovo Pignone, which envisages the realisation of a project for the development of green technologies to support energy transition by reducing environmental impact. The investment agreement amounts to EUR 28.5 million, of which EUR 7.7 million are made available by Mise. The Minister for Economic Development, Giancarlo Giorgetti, said: “Mise supports companies like Nuovo Pignone that invest in research and development of innovative and high-tech products for sustainable energy production,” concluding: “These investments are the key to winning the challenge of energy transition and growing the economy of our country, making the excellence of our made in Italy more competitive on international markets.”
